Written: Term 1 2005, Revised: Term 1 2008, Review: Term 4 2008

Purpose
This policy attempts to ensure the safety of our students as they leave the school grounds by bus, walking, or by being picked up by carers from the school grounds.

Broad guidelines
  • Bell rings at 3:00pm. Please make every effort to arrive at the shade area on time. Every teacher takes his/her class to the shade area.
  • Children are to line up in the following designated areas:

Bus
Drive Through (until 3.20pm)
After School Care
Bannockburn Road / Train
After School Activities
Pick-up by Parents / Carers (until 3.20pm)

  • Teacher on "Pick-up duty" takes the Bannockburn Road / Train children up to Bannockburn Road and then returns to take over the "Pick-up Duty".
  • All teachers are to remain in the shade area and assist with the dismissal of children and until the Teacher on “Pick-up Duty” returns to supervise remaining children.
  • Bus and Drive Through Duty” Teachers also take their children. Similarly, After School Care, Sports Coaches etc.
  • Teachers not on designated duty will need to supervise remaining children until teacher returns from "Bannockburn Road Duty".
  • A teacher must walk the children to the door of the bus and leave when the bus door is closed.
  • It is the expectation that children travel directly home once they have left the school grounds.
  • Children are to sit quietly in their bus seats and are not to move around once on the bus.
  • In the event of "Wet Weather" children are collected from the Classrooms. Bus children line up along the corridor next to the Uniform Shop. After School Care children go to the Hall.

To ensure the safe dismissal of children all teachers need to assist with supervision for 5-10 minutes in the afternoon. Once the majority of children are dismissed then the teachers on duty will be able to supervise the remaining children.

Basis of Discretion
There will be times when the weather requires the students to be seated differently or to wait somewhere else, or for more teachers to be on duty. Safety is of the utmost importance at all times.
